Position Summary
The Base Camp Director is responsible for the overall management and operation of our summer day camp program. This dynamic role requires a passionate individual with strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to providing a safe, fun, and enriching experience for campers, while also fostering a positive and supportive work environment for staff.
Responsibilities
Program Planning and Implementation
- Develop and implement comprehensive summer camp programs.
- Execute and create engaging and age-appropriate daily activity schedules that include a variety of outdoor and indoor activities.
- Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and risk management procedures.
Staff Management
- Train a qualified team of camp counselors and support staff.
- Provide ongoing supervision, coaching, and feedback to staff members.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
- Create weekly staff assignments to execute programs while also maximizing efficiencies.
Camp Operations
- Oversee daily camp operations, including camper check-in and check-out, activities, and transitions between activities.
- Manage camp budgets and resources effectively.
- Order materials throughout the summer season to adequately run the camp program.
- Coordinate with other Programs (MOLA, Camp New Fork, Wilderness Adventures) and external organizations to ensure smooth program delivery.
- Work with partner organizations to effectively run our financial aid program (Wilderness Adventures Foundation and One22).
- Work with Snow King Mountain Resort to operate the program.
Parent Communication
- Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians, addressing their concerns and questions promptly.
Emergency Preparedness
- Implement emergency preparedness plans and procedures when necessary.
- Conduct regular emergency drills and training sessions for staff.
Qualifications + Requirements
Qualifications
- Leadership experience working with children in a camp or outdoor education setting.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Passion for outdoor activities and child development.
Key Dates
The Base Camp Director position is a seasonal position with Wilderness Adventures. There is some flexibility on the start day of the contract. Key dates for 2025 are as follows:
- June 8 + 14 – Staff Training
- June 16 – Week 1 Begins
- July 4 – No Camp
- August 18 – Week 10 Begins
