River Discovery is based in Salmon, Idaho in an extraordinary setting of mountains and rivers deep in the heart of Salmon River country. Salmon River Rafting Adventures Unique programs that offer teenage and adult cancer survivors a life-changing experience rafting and camping on the Salmon River. Be immersed in the beauty and serenity of the river and experience the recuperative benefits of that environment. Hike, swim, raft and kayak while learning about natural history, canyon history and camping skills. Activities are customized to accommodate any fitness level; no experience required. Staff includes licensed medical and mental health professionals. River Discovery contracts with a licensed outfitter who provides professional guides and high quality rafting and camping equipment.
2011 Teen Adventure Program for Cancer Survivors
July 15 to July 21
Ages 13-17; -or- a 2010/2011 high school senior

Get a taste of adventure during this 7 day/ 6 night program! Meet other teens while rafting and camping along the Salmon River. Hiking, swimming and kayaking along with many other activities are offered with ample time to relax and enjoy nature. No camping or rafting experience required and any fitness level is welcome; activities are customized to accommodate each participant. Teens will learn camping and rafting skills along with cooking over an open fire and in Dutch ovens. Staff includes a licensed professional counselor and a medical professional. The program is free although an application fee of $50 is required.
The adventure begins in Salmon, Idaho and ends in Boise. The first night is spent in Salmon and the next 6 days on the Salmon River. Program ends on July 21 in Boise. Rafting activities are provided by Wilderness River Outfitters (WRO), a licensed Idaho outfitter, and their staff of professional licensed guides. WRO uses high quality rafting and kayaking equipment and will teach participants how to properly use it. The small group size of 15 allows time to develop lasting relationships and learn new skills. Hiking, swimming and kayaking are just some of the activities offered along with plenty of time to relax and enjoy the serenity found in the wilderness. No camping or rafting experience required and any fitness level is welcome; activities are customized to accommodate each participant. Attendees will learn about Dutch oven and open fire cooking, natural history and canyon lore. Staff includes a licensed professional counselor and a medical professional. The program is free although an application fee of $50 is required.
